Hometown: Smithsburg, MD

Birthday: July 1, 1954

Occupation:
Principal, Fountaindale School for the Arts and Academics

If I Weren’t a Full-Time Educator, I’d:
like to think I would spend more time doing things like dancing, interior design work, writing, playing music, traveling to Third-World countries to engage in missionary work, and driving racecars.

Biggest Accomplishment:
For me, it’s really about that internal feeling of knowing that something good has resulted from my effort that really defines the worthiness of the accomplishment. Working to positively impact the life of another adult or child is probably the greatest accomplishment that I attempt to achieve daily.

My Idea of Perfect Happiness:
I love those moments when you feel the presence of total spiritual alignment within yourself — now that’s perfect happiness! Sometimes this feeling happens in the midst of total chaos and sometimes it happens in the midst of a serene setting. I think moments like these are great gifts from God to remind us of who we really are.

Living Person I Admire Most:
My mother, Mary Newcomer Hedges. She has faced and overcome so many challenges in her lifetime and has always remained a beautiful person, both inside and out! She is living proof of spirit on earth.

Passions:
I am a pretty high-energy type of person, and I am most passionate about my work and playtime!

Three Favorite Places in Washington County:
My home, the Towpath, Downtown Hagerstown and City Market. I have great memories of going downtown and to City Market with my maternal grandmother when I was a little girl. I still love to look at the tops of our old buildings and recall the days when going to Downtown Hagerstown to shop was a big deal!
