Free for All Fine Art Exhibition at the Washington County Arts Council Gallery

Nearly 100 original works of art created by more than 40 artists who reside or work in Washington County will be on display at the Washington County Arts Council Gallery through October 8, 2006.  The show opens with a reception, free and open to the public, on Saturday, September 9 from 6-8pm. The Gallery is located at 14 West Washington Street in historic downtown Hagerstown.

This first annual "Washington County Free-for-All" was conceived not only to give local artists an opportunity to exhibit their work, but also to give the community at large a gauge of the breadth of talent available locally. "When we invited artists to submit up to two works apiece, with the only stipulation being that the artists live or work in the County, we were taking a risk," said Kevin Moriarty, Executive Director of the Washington County Arts Council. "We didn't know how many artists would respond, nor did we know what in the world would come through the door. We needn't have worried; there were people lined up on the sidewalk when we unlocked on Saturday morning, and within two hours we had almost 100 pieces. There's an excellent variety of styles and media. And there's more coming in hour-by-hour. We said we'd accept anything until we ran out of room, and it appears that we'll reach that point in a few minutes!"
